SHIRLEY A. GRAHAM, CURATORMISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN
FIELD OF STUDY
Systematics and evolution of the flowering plants, specializing in the plant family Lythraceae, the
Loosestrifes, the species, their evolutionary and biogeographical history. Currently I am focused
on two projects: producing a modern monograph of the ca. 250 species of the tropical American
genus Cuphea, incorporating data from morphology, molecular phylogenies, palynology,
chromsomes, and seed oil chemistry; and with two colleagues, to complete a family phylogeny
and sufficient markers to expose the most basal evolutionary branches and representative of all
genera.
