Hugh A. McAllister (born 1944), British botanist.
Hugh McAllister is an honorary member of staff of Liverpool University's Institute of Integrative Biology working at the Botanic Gardens at Ness. Current research is primarily on the cytotaxonomy, evolution and phylogeography of woody genera of horticultural significance and revising their classification worldwide. Monographs on Sorbus (rowans - 2005) and Betula (birches – 2013, reprinted with corrections 2016), by Kew Publishing; and Hedera (ivy) (2017) with the RHS (Royal Horticultrual Society) have been published and there is much follow up work to do investigating outstanding problems. Spiraea is also now being tackled in a co-operative project.
